Bareilly: In a major change to its admission policy, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University has announced that admissions to the M.Ed. programme for the 2026-27 academic session will now be conducted on the basis of merit instead of an entrance examination.
Speaking exclusively to The Lucknow Tribune, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. P. Singh said the university would soon release the detailed admission schedule for the programme offered under the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Faculty of Education and Allied Sciences.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the new admission process is aimed at making admissions simpler and more student-friendly. Earlier, candidates were selected through a university-level entrance examination. Under the revised system, admissions will be granted purely on academic merit, reducing the burden of entrance preparation and additional expenses for students while also ensuring the timely commencement of the academic session.
Head of the B.Ed./M.Ed. Department, Prof. Santosh Arora, stated that the M.Ed. programme is an important postgraduate course in teacher education designed to prepare skilled teacher educators, researchers, educational administrators, and academic innovators. She added that the programme offers valuable opportunities for students aspiring to specialize in school education, teacher training, and educational research.
The M.Ed. programme will span two years across four semesters. Candidates seeking admission must have secured at least 55 percent marks in B.Ed. or B.El.Ed. programmes. The department has 50 regular seats along with 5 seats reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
Prof. Arora further informed that detailed guidelines regarding applications, merit preparation, and admission dates will soon be made available by the university. She highlighted that the department is known for quality teaching and research in teacher education and offers students access to modern ICT laboratories, a well-equipped library, research-oriented academic culture, school training programmes, seminars, workshops, and other academic activities.

She also noted that the university encourages students to engage in research writing, educational innovation, competitive examinations, and higher studies. National Assessment and Accreditation Council has accredited the university with an A++ grade, while the University Grants Commission recognizes it as a Category-I university.
Students interested in applying for the M.Ed. programme have been advised to regularly visit the university’s official portal, MJP Rohilkhand University, and the Samarth admission portal for updates regarding application forms, merit lists, and admission-related notifications.
